how do i install the windows usb driver? or do i only have to extract it?

  2. admin says:

Extract the zip archive, you will get several .inf files. Right click on those and select “Install”. Or you can use Device Manager to install required drivers.

  3. louis weismann says:

Okay, I did exactly follow the steps you give above. But nothing happens, meaning in the Motochoppers screen appears the following:
    [*] Waiting for device…
    * daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
    * daemon started succesfully *

cursor keeps blinking while nothing seems to happen.
what I notice is that the status of the tablet keeps telling it is loading via usb.
So I check Windows devicemanager where I see this warning icon with the ME173x device and after I open the properties screen it says “device drivers are not installed (code 28)”

Maybe it is that my PC has Windows 8 professional 8 (64bit) installed?

    • admin says:

      Hi Louis,

Make sure you have installed the USB drivers correctly. Download the drivers and extract the archive. Open Device Manager and find the tablet, right click on it and select “Update Driver Software”. Now browse and select the driver folder which you have extracted.
There may be some issues with 64 bit OS. Try running Motochopper as administrator.
I’ve updated the article with another rooting process using Framaroot. Kindly follow that guide.

  4. louis weismann says:

thanks, i used framaroot and that went very fast. so i installed Root Checker but that results in error message telling me “Sorry ! This device does not have proper root access.” 🙂
So is there another way to finds out that I have routed my yablet succesfully?

    • admin says:

What message Framaroot was showing? Have you rebooted the tablet? Is there any app called “SuperSU” in your tablet?
Yes, there are many other apps in Google Play Store to check root access.

  5. louis weismann says:

I rebooted my tablet again and now it now root checker resulted Rooted Succesfully.
So whe are getting forward. But when i verify the Android version it is still version 4.2.1 while I expected to get version 4.2.2
Because the reason for me to do this is to get USB pen drive or cardreader via OTG working. But NOT still 🙂

    • admin says:

      Enjoy 🙂

Asus has not released Android 4.2.2 update yet. USB OTG doesn’t work properly at this time. Developers are trying to solve the problem. It may work in future.

  6. louis weismann says:

So I have to wait patiently. At least I have learnt a lot and succesfully rooted my device.
Thank you a lot for your help.

  7. duxtin says:

Worked without effort! Thank you! Just one thing: I chose the SuperUser app when prompted, but it didn’t gave me root permissions, so I had to open the Framaroot apk again and install SuperSU, and it worked fine.

I have the ME173X model, 8gb version, with 3.4.5 kernel and android 4.2.2. Everything original.

My compilation is ME173X_WW_user_4.2.4.31212_20131030 release-keys (I always made the updates through the settings app since I bought my device).

I was happy for succefully rooting my device, following these instructions you gently made for us. It was made via framaroot – boromir. I also installed SuperSu and Titanium Backup (TB).

Then I unistalled (without backing up any of them), provided that I will never use, these:
    Google Chrome (via TB)
    BuddyBuzz (via TB)
    Press Reader (via TB)
Google Play Movies (via Clean Master)
Google Play Magazines (via Clean Master)

So far so good. BUT! I check the udate status once and I got some sort of a “… server is busy…” error message and nothing was downloaded. Then I reboot and checked again and now there`s a new update available! My major issues are these two:

    1) i dont understand the screen capture I took and posted oni this link… The “mcube” thing… Could you explain me that, please? it‘s odd… and uninstallable by the simple means I now…

    2) is it safe to update my system again, since a new update is available and my device is rooted and there are those missing stock apks?

I will be very thankfull for your recomendations and thank you for your time! sorry for the long reply…

    Best regards,

  31. Carl Parsons says:

My system thinks this is Malware, is It true?

  32. Captain Cretin says:

No, but it is bypassing the Android security settings (it has to, to install); so it is detected as Malware.

This is true of most software that tries to bypass the manf’s own OS tweaks regardless of which OS you are using.

The real problem is identifying the REAL malware when trying to do something with unofficial software packages.

  41. Patrick says:

Very Newbie question. Once the device is rooted, what’s the next step to install KitKat (4.4.2 or later)? Or, is it even possible to upgrade the OS on the ME173x?

  42. Boomaxe says:

It is only saying this….Your device seems not vulnerable to exploit included in Framaroot”,
    What to do next?

  43. wamarante says:

I downloaded the Framaroot-1.9.3.apk (1.25 MB) from the link shown in this tutorial. I run the Framaroot (after preparing the prerequisites) and choose Boromir and in less than 3 secs it was done. I rebooted and everything was right. Tested with apps that requires root and was fine. Thansks.

Note: It’s not necessary, but first I reset the tablet to the factory settings.
